One of the most important advantages of being part of the Estonian Digital Nation is that everything can be done digitally. Specifically, you can grant powers of attorney to other people to manage certain aspects of your business, such as accounting, registering your intra-community VAT number, and so on.
At Your Company In Estonia, we make use of this great advantage mainly for two things:
- To be able to assign our accountants to your company and thus manage your taxes, monthly VAT declarations and the annual activity reports of your company, as part of our services.
- To be able to apply for a VAT/VIES number for your company.
How do you do this? We’ll get into it. But first, important: IF YOU HAVE NOT INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE TO USE YOUR E-RESIDENCY CARD: it is important that you visit this link first.

Accessing the Online Tax Service
The first thing you have to do is go to Estonia’s business and finance website:
Have your e-Residency card and the reader ready! If you land in the Estonian version, just click on the “English” link on the top right. Go to the “Business client” tab.
Now you just have to click on the “Enter e-Tax / e-Customs” button, any of them. You will see a pop-up like this appear:
Place the card in the reader and insert it into the USB. Make sure it is properly positioned, centered, and that the light on the reader is turned on. Then click on “ENTER” next to “Enter with ID card”.
If all goes well, you will be asked to select a certificate (there will only be one with your name, so it will be easy) and you will enter the PIN1. This PIN has to come in the package they gave you with the e-Residency in a small sealed envelope.
If things go wrong…
The card usually works well. However, sometimes the reader has problems reading the card, especially the first time. If this happens, do not worry. Try moving the card a bit and make sure it is not upside down!
If everything else fails you can try closing and reopening the browser, using another browser, restarting your computer or, if nothing helps, contacting us.

Now click where it says “e-maksuametisse / e-toll” (what a beautiful and musical word, huh?).
Accepting The Online Tax Service
If it is the first time you enter, and we have not already done it for you, you will have to accept the online service. This is a mere bureaucratic process. Do not worry. Let’s do it!
The first thing you need to do is click that big button that says “Conclude a contract”.
Then you will have to write some information, such as your name, ema, l and address. You can enter your business address without any problems, or press the button that says “If your address is outside of Estonia, please enter your address here” if you want to put your private address.
After that click on “Accept”, and that’s all. We are ready!
Accessing as representative of your company
For the last step, it is important that you access the portal as YOUR COMPANY, not like you (person). On the main page, or by clicking on “To role selection page”, you should see something like this:
If you see something like what appears below, you have entered as “Private client”. In that case, do not panic! Simply hit “To role selection page”, and choose your company.
Granting the power of attorney
Once you’re in as a company representative, you have to go to the “Settings” tab. If the interface is in Estonian, do not worry, click on “ENG” at the top to put it in English.
Once there, click on “Access permissions” on the left menu.
A different interface will be loaded with a blue-gray color background. It is the new administrative interface of the Tax Office. There you will see your access permissions for your company.
To add us, in the drop-down to the left, where it says “My Access Permissions”, select “Access permissions of representatives”
Now you will see a blue button that says “New access permission” on the right. Click on it.
Now you will see a field where you can search for a person by e-Residency code. Enter 38001060164 there, and click on “Search”. A result will appear below with the name “Ignacio Nieto Carvajal”. Click on the green “Next” button.
Next, go to the bottom of the page, and you will see a list of “packages” containing a set of permissions that you can grant to other people or companies. In our case, we are not interested in any of those packages, but a concrete permission. So click on the “Separate permissions” tab. Don’t modify the date of permission, as we want it to start that same day, and don’t have a termination date.
Thankfully, there’s a search field to help us find what we’re looking for. Enter “representative” and click on “Search”. The permission we are looking for, “The right of use of applications”, should appear below. Click on the green “Add” button.
Then, back on the previous screen, you should be able to see the permission listed correctly along yours.
Congratulations! You have just granted us a power of attorney, without needing a notary. Behold the power of the digital nation!
We now have everything we need to do your accounting and taxes, VAT number application, etc.
